4th Grade Tackle Football Takes on Duxbury
Eric Rubino, Nate Bosnian, and Shane Bick represented the team as co-captains in the game against the Duxbury Dragons in the lights on Saturday evening 9/19/09.
Peyton Crosby received the kickoff assisted by the offensive line of Zach Devine, Shane Bick, Spencer Cassell, Nate Bosnian, Charlie Wichern, Michael Donius and Michael Freeman. Handoff/s to Eric Rubino, Peyton Crosby and Tyler Murphy were productive but not enough to hold onto the ball. On defense, team tackles led by Spencer Cassell, Alex Dietrich, Peyton Crosby, Eric Rubino and Michael Donius were impressive but not enough to stop Duxbury from scoring 6 pts to end the 1st quarter.
On offense in the 2nd quarter Tyler Murphy received the ball followed by runs by Eric Rubino, QB Richard Miller, and a drive up the middle by Spencer Cassell but eventually Hingham turned the ball over on downs. On defense, Murphy, Shane Bick, Cassell, Charlie Wichern and Alex Dietrich were tough on the line. Tackles by Dietrich, Bick, Jack Maude and Cassell were effective at stopping Duxbury. Again on offense we saw Tyler Murphy turn on the speed. Spencer Cassell did what he did best with another crash through the middle. Rubino used his speed to gain up the side. An incredible silent QB sneak by Richard Miller was definitely the highlight of the game and good for 20 yards. Another pitch to Tyler Murphy and a toss to Peyton Crosby was good for a Hingham 1st down to end the 2nd half.
Michael Freeman kicked to Duxbury to start the 2nd half with the assistance of Tyler Murphy, Shane Bick, Spencer Cassell, Charlie Wichern and Alex Dietrich. Spencer Cassell was the hero this time by tackling the receiver on the first play and then ripping the ball out of Duxbury’s hand and dashing for the Duxbury 30 yard line on the second play. The offense of Michael Freeman, Zach Devine, Nate Bosnian, Charlie Wichern, Nick Beal and Shane Bick were ready to capitalize on Cassell’s momentum. Tyler Murphy saw another big gain. Spencer Cassell tore up the middle. Nice blocking on the line contributed to more gains by Peyton Crosby, Tyler Murphy and Eric Rubino. A great pass to Nick Beal had Hingham well within scoring distance. The ball was handed to none other than Spencer Cassell who had already proved he could drive a wedge up the middle and he dutifully complied to put Hingham on the scoreboard. Eric Rubino added to the excitement by adding 2 points on the conversion. The score was now Hingham 8, Duxbury 6. But just when you thought things couldn’t get better, a kick to Duxbury by Michael Freeman resulted in a turnover when Freeman recovered his own kick. Unfortunately Hingham was not able to capitalize on this error and turned the ball back over to Duxbury. Although the defense was strong with tackles by Freeman and Crosby, Duxbury managed to score a TD and a 2 pt conversion and took the lead 14-8. Hingham’s last possession of the game was truly a heroic attempt. Eric Rubino, Spencer Cassell, Peyton Crosby and Tyler Murphy all did their best to drive into Duxbury territory but in the end, it was Duxbury who triumphed.
